18-month meeting

Researchers from all the institutions participating in the StretchBio project took part in the 18-month meeting of the project held last week at the Fraunhofer Institute in Freiburg. The meeting focused on the design and operation of the functional prototype of the sensor that will be completed over the next 3 months and that is the key element of the project. With this aim, the meeting was structured around 3 working tables to focus on the different aspects of the prototype and, with the results of the last months, make the decisions to start the final section of the fabrication of the functional prototype.

The meeting also served to share the good results of the evaluation of the first 12 months of the project by the European Commission, to plan the tasks of the coming months and to present the next actions of the project in terms of communication, dissemination, and exploitation. In this sense, a “Fall School” of the project will be organized in which master’s and PHD students will have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of nanobiotechnology.

Once the working meeting was over, the researchers took the opportunity to visit the facilities and laboratories where researchers from the Albert-Ludwigs-Universitaet Freiburg (ALU-FR) have been carrying out some of the work of the project.

StretchBio is a project coordinated by the University of Barcelona and with the participation of Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU), Albert-Ludwigs-Universitaet Freiburg (ALU-FR), Leitat and Readycell. The main objective of StretchBio is the design, development, fabrication, and proof of application of a nano system for monitoring the mechanical stresses in ex vivo living tissue biopsies with the final goal of its use in cancer drug screening and personalized medicine.
